Staying Hydrated in the Summer

July's almost over and the dog days of summer are approaching! As the heat continues to crank up, it is important to stay hydrated. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommends most adults get at least 9-13 cups of total beverages each day. Everyone has heard, "Drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day," which is almost 2 liters, and isn't that different from the IOM recommendations. Just keep in mind that all fluids count toward the daily total.

Some of those fluids come from food, including fresh fruit, which is abundant in summer! Here's a quick list of fruits with high water content:

Watermelon  92%
Plum 85%
Strawberries 92%
Blueberries 85%
Grapefruit 91%
Pineapple 87%
Cantaloupe 90%
Orange 87%
Peach 88%
Raspberries 87%
